An IR Controller
An IR controller with feedback and learning capabilities offers an intuitive solution for controlling a wide range of IR-compatible devices. Now, it has the ability for status detection and integrating ACs into the Matter system.
* Please note: the infrared frequency is 38kHz ** Only one device of the AC type can be exposed to Matter, and the functionality may vary depending on the particular app
The Edge Hub:
Enhanced Stability and Localization with Edge Compatibility
Centralized-Distributed Smart Home System
Once integrated into the network, it assumes leadership over existing Aqara hubs, centralizing data processing and commanding other hubs for distributed computing.
Localization of Cross-Hub Automation
Automations previously executed in the cloud between hubs will transition to local Edge automations, ensuring they remain operational even during internet outages.
Ultimate Stability and Device Binding Capability
In the event of a Hub M3 failure, certain routers or mesh repeaters are capable of executing simple automations*. For example, the automation of Curtain Driver and Door and Window Sensor remains operational in case the M3 fails, providing a seamless automation experience.
Hub Migration:
Seamless Upgrade and Data Transmission
The M3 allows for straightforward migration from older Aqara hubs, enabling seamless network upgrades without manual device reconnections.
Wired or Wireless:
Versatile Connectivity Options
The M3 offers dual-band Wi-Fi with WPA3 security, PoE support, and a USB-C allows for UPS/power bank connections, ensuring robust and versatile connectivity.
Focus on Privacy and Encrypted Storage
The M3 does not include any microphones or cameras, and features an end-to-end encrypted local storage* for device lists, configuration parameters and automation data.
Powerful Speaker and Custom Ringtones
The hub's 95dB speaker functions as an Aqara Home Alert siren or for announcements, allowing custom ringtones to be integrated into automations, even without an internet connection.
Flexible Placement and Easy Setup
The M3 comes with a mount, screws, and sticker for easy placement on flat surfaces, walls, or ceilings. Once powered, MagicPair enables automatic Aqara Home app detection.
M3 is a perfect addition of your existing Aqara setup
IF you have used Aqara Home and Aqara hubs before, you will have two options: either make M3 lead other Aqara Zigbee hubs, which will enhance their local automation capabilities, or to migrate all the Zigbee Aqara devices to the M3 and make your setup even more robust.
Fully functional air conditioning thermostat by
simply connecting a Climate Sensor
Thanks to the built-in IR blaster, the M3 can control your existing IR devices, such as an Air Conditioner. By connecting an external Aqara Climate (Temperature and Humidity) Sensor, you will be able to trigger automations based on the actual temperature of your room, and expose this AC to third-party apps such as Apple Home, Amazon Alexa and Google Home via Matter.
Built-in Speaker
The Aqara Hub M3 is equipped with a built-in speaker that can be used in a variety of ways.
Doorbell
Alarm Clock
Configurable Ringtones

- For direct connections, it is recommended to keep the single-hop distance within 10 meters and not exceed 2 walls.
- Adding Zigbee repeaters can help extend the signal coverage and relay the signals. It is suggested to keep the single-hop distance within 2 walls.
- Try to distribute the sub-devices evenly and meet the above two points. Generally, one M3 gateway can cover an area of 100 to 300 square meters.
- If you seek the utmost stability and experience, it is recommended to place a regular gateway (such as Aqara M2 Hub) in each room, connected via wired Ethernet. Each gateway can have its own set of sub-devices for that specific room, eliminating the need for Zigbee/Wi-Fi signals to pass through walls and ensuring a more reliable and stable connection.
- Ensure that the number of obstacles encountered in each hop is minimized.
- Use Zigbee repeaters appropriately to maximize their relay capabilities.
- To ensure that the hub’s signal can reach longer distances, it is recommended that the hub be installed no less than 1 meter (3 feet) from the ground.
Why We Need a Hub?
A smart home hub is the central processor of a smart home, integrating various devices into a unified system that works seamlessly together.
Command & Control
The Aqara Hub M3 acts as a centralized controller, managing and controlling multiple smart home devices such as lighting switches, smart locks, thermostats, motion sensors, LED lights, pet feeders, and more. It allows you to control your entire home through a single mobile app, simplifying your smart home experience.
Automation:
With a smart home hub, you can create automations (also known as IFTTT) to streamline your daily routines. For example, remotely unlock your smart lock, automatically turn lights on or off at specific times or when motion is detected, adjust the air conditioner temperature, and more.
Multiple Protocols
A smart home hub connects devices using multiple protocols like Zigbee, IR (Infrared), Thread, and Bluetooth. The supported protocols vary by hub, so be sure to check the hub’s specifications to ensure compatibility with your devices.
Infrared (IR) Blaster:
Some Aqara hubs, such as the M3, come equipped with a 360° IR blaster, enabling control of IR-compatible devices like TVs, air conditioners, and fans. So, it allows users to manage traditional appliances like air conditioners and TVs alongside their smart devices.
